From Your Interstate Insurance Agents: Biggest Mistakes When Driving in the Snow

Published on December 5, 2012

We’ve all had to do it – but when you’re driving in the snow there are a few things that you just can never do if you want to avoid an auto accident. Our interstate insurance agents work with clients who have experienced the dangers of driving in the snow.  Here we’re going to go over five things you’ll never want to do:

Driving Too Fast

Unless you want to have a lengthy consultation with an auto accident lawyer you’re going to want to slow down. Whatever it is can wait a few extra minutes – make sure you take extra precautions when you go up and down hills and around corners.

Tailgating

Fun for NFL parties, not so much fun in the snow. One of the leading causes of auto accidents following others too closely can cost you big. Don’t do it!

Don’t Overcorrect

Ever hear the saying that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure? Driving slowly and being cautious means you won’t have to over-correct on the ice at all.

Driving When You’re Tired

All that white can turn to a haze in your mind and maybe you’ve been hustling and bustling all winter on the ice – but driving when you’re tired is one of the worst mistakes you can make. Avoid auto accidents, don’t drive when you’re tired.

Forgetting to Winterize

If you don’t winterize your car, it’s not going to be ready. Start getting ready in late November early December.
