From Your Interstate Insurance Agents: How to Prep your Car for Winter

Published on December 19, 2012

If you don’t want to get into an auto accident this winter, it’s time to start prepping! Here are some tips from our interstate insurance agents:

Don’t Change Your Own Oil: The last thing you want to do is change your own oil after 30,000 miles. Let a professional give you the right kind of oil change and then you won’t have to worry about it later.

Check Your Battery: Winter is coming and it’s time to check your system for issues

Switch to Snow Tires: If you’re in an area where this is a thing, switch to snow tires to avoid auto accidents. If snow isn’t much of an issue, make sure you check your tire pressure to avoid issues in colder weather.

Prep an Emergency Kit: You can get stranded in just about any weather, so don’t be afraid to prep an emergency kit with a wind up or solar cellphone charger, blankets, food, water, flares, jumper cables, spare tire and whatever else you might need.

Make Sure Your 4 Wheel Drive is Working: No one wants to end up stuck in the sticks or in an auto accident because their 4 wheel drive isn’t work. Go to a mechanic and have a test done to know that all of your power wheels are working correctly.

Any interstate insurance agent will tell you that peace of mind keeps you calm in winter and helps prevent accidents altogether. Don’t get stuck in a bad situation because you don’t prep your car for winter.
