Interstate Insurance Tip: Buying Tires

Published on January 9, 2013

If you’ve had your tires for more than five years, now might be the best time – unless you want to get into an auto accident you have to be careful. Our interstate insurance agents understand the importance of having proper tires. Here are a few things our interstate insurance agents advise you to look for when buying new tires:

What Climate Are You In?

The first thing you need to do is figure out what kind of climate you’re in. In a desert you’re going to want M tires that can take hot dry environments. If you’re somewhere where it snows, you’ll want S tires to handle snows – if you live somewhere with both you’ll want SM tires that can do them both.

What Size Do You Need?

Size of the tire is important, because certain tires only fit certain cars and wheel welds. When you have them put on in a shop they’ll be able to help you figure out what size you need. When you buy them on your own the size will be in mm (millimeters) and you’re going to need to measure and convert. This might be one of the times where you’ll get more out of working with a professional instead of doing it yourself.

What Kind of Traction do You Need?

Different kinds of traction are available – any auto accident lawyer is going to tell you that bald tires cause accidents! Good traction and treads are necessary if you don’t want to end up in an auto accident.
