Interstate Insurance Tip: Winter Car Emergency Prep
Published on January 2, 2013
Everyone needs to be prepared in winter, and since most auto accidents occur in the final 2 months of the year, it’s a good idea to get everything ready. Here are some tips from our interstate insurance agents on how to prepare for any emergency:
- Spare Tire with Air in It: How many people have needed a tire but didn’t have a way to air it up? Don’t let this be you.
- Blankets: It may take time for the cops to arrive – warm blankets can make a bad situation tolerable.
- Wind Up Radio and Charger: A wind up radio and wind up cellphone charger can help you contact police and know what the weather conditions are if you get stranded.
- First Aid Kits, Food and Clothing: Be prepared for injury and to stay in your car for the long haul. After an auto accident anything can happen.
- Jumper Cables: Jumper cables are important, but you’ll want a clean fresh pair that will connect to even the most corroded batteries.
- 5lb Bag of Sand: Sand increases traction and can help you get out of a tight spot.
- Scraper, Spare Windshield Wipers, and a Shovel: Self explanatory!
- Batteries and Flashlights: You never know how long you can be stranded in the dark after an auto accident.
- Portable Pump: a portable tire pump for your car can help you get going.
- Sealant and Tools: Emergency tire sealant and tools to change out a bad tire are important.
If you’re in an accident make sure you notify your interstate insurance company right away.
